About Us

Pikes Peak Youth Ringers (PPYR) was formed in 2009 to encourage musical development, promote leadership skills, team work, and build character and integrity through the unique discipline of hand bell ringing. There are two auditioned groups, Ascent (5th-8th grade) and Pinnacle (9th – 12th grade). They rehearse weekly and perform in Colorado Springs and surrounding areas. The ringers attend practices and performances, work together as a team and share the joy of their music with the community.

Pikes Peak Youth Ringers attained their goal of becoming a 501(C)(3) in March of 2013. We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations and fund raising to meet needs such as equipment, music, performance attire and the like.

Susan Hedgpeth is the Artistic Director. She is an enthusiastic and dedicated leader. She is an excellent role model, and promotes not only musical education but also character development in her students. Susan Hedgpeth graduated with a Bachelor in Church Music/Piano from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. Susan was a full time ringer for the Pikes Peak Ringers from 2004-2011. Susan was selected in June 2012 to be part of the Handbell Musicians of America Area XI Festival staff leading the newly formed youth track during the four-day event in Salt Lake City. Susan directed two beginning handbell groups at a public school as well as the Ascent and Pinnacle groups for PPYR. Susan also gives private piano lessons.
